From the United States to South America and Portugal, Dr. Charles Nutting has collaborated with physicians all over the world to become a leader in prostate artery embolization or PAE. Due to the complexity of this procedure, there are few interventional radiologists that can say they have the amount of experience that Dr. Nutting does.
“It’s a life changing therapy that is minimally invasive,” said Dr. Nutting. “It’s satisfying to see patients do well with this therapy and to push this technology to its limit to treat as many patients as possible.” Dr. Nutting has performed PAE on over 500 patients.
Prostate Artery Embolization
Embolization therapy at ECCO occurs in an outpatient setting. Embolic material (small particles about the size of a grain of sand) inject into the body through a catheter into blood vessels that decrease blood flow to the prostate. Depriving the prostate of oxygenated blood will cause it to shrink, thereby improving urinary symptoms.

Typical PAE Results
While results may vary, the below list makes up typical results achieved in a matter of weeks after the procedure.
-
Urinary flow boosted 71%
-
Urgency cut by 76%
-
Bladder emptying increased 66%
-
Frequency cut by 60%
These statistics are powerful, but the real meaning comes from the stories of everyday patients. “There are so many patient stories of this therapy providing significant relief in their daily activities – it really is a life changing procedure,” said Dr. Nutting.
The success stories of his patients keep Dr. Nutting inspired and excited by the field of interventional radiology. But, his thirst for knowledge and expertise makes him a trusted leader in embolization therapies. He’s published papers and educated other physicians in the work of this ever evolving field. Because of this work, Dr. Nutting has become a Fellow within the Society for Interventional Radiologists. An honor that only 10% of interventionists have received.
